Curriculum Enrichment
We believe in taking every opportunity to deepen and enrich our students’ education, reaching far beyond the National Curriculum and developing a love of learning for life.
In lessons, our students are challenged to become independent, resilient and reflective learners, capable of open-ended enquiry, debate and discussion across a wide range of subjects. Departmental Programmes of Study are shared with students with an emphasis on the importance of independent study and ownership of learning. Research and enquiry techniques are taught actively in all subject areas with key numeracy and literacy skills embedded across the curriculum to enable our students to take full advantage of opportunities in life.
Extra-curricular study is valued in all subject areas. Cross-curricular development is also a key feature of our Able, Gifted and Talented provision.

The Brilliant Club
This year, we are once again taking part in The Brilliant Club programme. The Brilliant Club work across the UK, supporting less advantaged students to access the most competitive universities, and to succeed when they get there.
The Brilliant Club trains PhD tutors to deliver The Scholars Programme in their partner schools across the UK. They share their subject knowledge and passion for learning with small groups of students aged 8-18. It helps students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to secure a place at a competitive university.
The programme is structured around seven tutorials, and pupils also attend two events at our partner universities to speak with current undergraduates and learn about university life. Fourteen pupils are in one placement, taught in two smaller groups of seven. They work towards completing a challenging final assignment which is marked and moderated using university grades.
Sir Isaac Newton Further Maths GCSE
The school works closely with Sir Isaac Newton in offering a Further Maths GCSE to students each year. This qualification is highly regarded by sixth forms and colleges and there is strong evidence that shows that students who complete the additional GCSE Further Maths course get better outcomes in GCSE exams. It is also important that I highlight that this additional qualification is not solely aimed at students who have plans to study Maths beyond GCSE level but it is designed for students who enjoy Maths and are looking to challenge themselves further. As part of the course, students will be able to take advantage of the following benefits:

Weekly 75-minute online sessions each Thursday (3:45 pm - 5:00 pm)

Sessions delivered by maths specialists and experienced teachers

Workbooks posted to students/schools in advance of sessions

Follow-up staudy tasks to be completed after each session

Independent study tasks are set for students to complete during weeks with no online session

Access to videos and addiional resources to support the students learning

Opportunity for students to complete termly assessments to check progress
