School Uniform
All students are required to wear the Stalham High School uniform.
Blazers, shirts, jumpers and ties
The navy blue blazers with the school badge must be worn at all times unless a teacher has given the students permission to remove them for the duration of a lesson. If that is the case, the students must put their blazers back on before leaving the room.
Plain blue shirt, long or short sleeves, must be fully buttoned up and tucked inside the trousers or skirt.
The v-neck jumper with school badge is optional and can be taken off in warm temperatures.
The tie, in house colours, needs to be neatly tied so that it fully covers the top button of the shirt and the school badge is clearly displayed just below the knot.
Trousers, shorts and skirts
The only type of trousers permitted are smart tailored, straight-legged plain black school trousers and should not have any adornments (e.g. studs, rivets or fancy stitching). A plain black belt may be worn if necessary, but no fashion belts are allowed. Trousers should not be made from any sort of lycra, corduroy or denim. Jeans, jeggings, chinos or very tight fitting trousers are not allowed. Trousers must cover students’ ankles and their socks.
The skirts must be plain grey and should be one of the following:
- Trutex pleated Harrow grey from Stevensons OR Girls' Permanent Pleated Grey Skirt from Marks and Spencer OR Girls Grey Pleated School Skirt 2 Pack from George at Asda. Skirts should be knee length. They should not be shorter. They should not be made of jersey or lycra. (Parents should note that this a change to our current uniform style)
Shorts
Shorts can be worn as part of the uniform. However, students will only be allowed to wear tailored knee length black shorts for the second half of the summer term. These shorts are unisex and are only available from Stevensons.
School approved trousers and skirts can be purchased from Stevensons.
PE Kit
Parents should consult Stevensons’ website for detailed information about PE kit. This can only be purchased from Stevensons. Compulsory kit is as follows:
- Blue polo shirt embroidered with the school badge;
- Plain black shorts and/or black tracksuit bottoms;
- PE footwear should be suitable for a range of indoor and outdoor activities. ‘Hi-tops’, plimsoles and other canvas shoes may not be worn.
Other items such as the school logo PE jumper and tracksuit bottoms may also be purchased, but these are optional.
Jewellery and Hair
- Jewellery should be limited to a watch and a pair of stud earrings. Dangly earrings and facial piercings are not allowed, neither are bracelets, bangles, necklaces, rings or other kinds of jewellery. Students will be expected to remove piercings. The excuse that they may heal up will not be accepted. Parents and students should consider this if they decide to get noses, tongues or lips pierced towards the end of a holiday or during term-time.
- Hairstyles should be sensible and not extreme. Hair should not stand out from the norm or attract undue interest. What is considered to be ‘extreme’ will be at the Headteacher’s discretion.
- School staff may well insist that students tie back very long hair when carrying out practical tasks.
- Hair needs to be one natural colour. Two-tone hair is unacceptable as are extreme colours. Once again, parents and students should be aware that colouring hair at the end of a holiday cannot be used as an excuse on a student’s return to school.
- Hair bands, ribbons should be discreet and not extreme.
- Tram lines or other shaved shapes in the hair or eyebrows are not permitted
Tattoos are illegal for students under 16 and not allowed in school.
Make up
- Make up should be minimal and students will be asked to remove excessive make–up or lipstick.
- Students should not wear nail varnish and acrylic/false nails are not allowed. Students are asked to ensure their nails are not excessively long.
Coats and jackets
Outdoor coats and jackets may be worn on the way to and from school, but must be removed inside the school building. It is not acceptable to wear hooded tops at or travelling to and from school. The school has the right to challenge uniform if not appropriate.

Uniform Transgressions
Senior school staff will decide what is appropriate when considering all aspects of the uniform policy. Appropriate sanctions will be given to students who fail to meet these expectations.
We make every effort to ensure our uniform is affordable and comfortable and hope that parents and students will do their best to adhere to it and help us to maintain our high standards. In the unusual event that a student doesn’t conform to our expectations, he/she may not be allowed to attend lessons until the issue causing concern is rectified.

Any parent/carer who has difficulty in meeting the cost of uniform should contact the Senior Deputy Headteacher (Mr McMahon) in confidence.

Shoes
Black leather or polishable leather style shoes. Trainers are not allowed. Shoes must be totally black with no coloured stripes or markings. Shoes should not be open-toed or have heels.
Non-Uniform Days - Clothing Guidance
On occasions, students are allowed to wear clothes other than the school uniform. This may include non-uniform days which raise money and awareness for charities, or as a form or house reward. Whilst this gives students the opportunity to express themselves as individuals, it must be done in an appropriate way: smart casual is what we are promoting. It is particularly important that any student dress on these occasions recognises that school is still a working environment.
Clothing worn by students on non-uniform days must still be safe and practical for school use particularly in Science and Technology.
Please do not wear logos that may cause offence to others.
If students arrive inappropriately attired, parents will be contacted and asked to bring in more suitable clothing to school.
Hats – should not be worn in school
Hair – should not be coloured for non-uniform days
Jewellery – Normal rules apply
Makeup – Normal rules apply
Clothing – the following items are not allowed to be worn:
- Clothing that reveals underwear, including see through tops
- Strapless or spaghetti strapped tops
- Clothing that is too revealing – no bare midriffs or cleavage!
- Leggings – unless worn with a skirt, dress or tunic of knee length
Onesies – aren’t suitable for school
Shorts, skirts and dresses, if worn, should be at least knee length, or worn with leggings/thick tights. No ‘short’ shorts. Sleeveless tops with broad straps are acceptable.
Footwear – high heels and platform boots or shoes should not be worn, neither should flip flops or strappy sandals. Closed footwear (shoes, trainers) should be worn in practical subjects.
It is recognised that this dress code will not cover all issues that may arise.
No student should wear fancy dress in school.
